Violence Against Children (VAC)

It is estimated that close to over 1 billion children, globally, experience either physical, sexual or emotional violence annually. The magnitude of the problem is greater in Africa. In Kenya, the Violence against Children (VAC) Survey reported that at least 32% of females and 18% of males had experienced sexual violence during childhood and only 3.4% of females and 0.4% males received any services
Key barriers to acess of VAC services in Kenya include: low awareness on availability of services by the communities; limited provider knowledge and skills on how to respond to VAC; lack of child friendly and sensitive services within public health facilities; and poor coordination among the different sectors to ensure that child survivors recieve comprehensive services.
